Top 10 Tips For Hassle Free Goal Setting

Everyone sets goals regardless of if you are a person who writes them down and plans them out in advance or not. You want to move on to the next thing in life, you want to push yourself to do better, you want to do more, achieve more, experience more, and live more.

Unfortunately, goal setting can burn you out. If you don’t achieve your goal in the set time frame or at all you feel like a failure. You get frustrated and don’t want to set goals ever again. Instead of feeling motivated by your goals you start to feel overwhelmed and exhausted, like you are fighting an uphill battle.

It does not have to be that way, love. I am here to give you some tips to make your goals easier to achieve, keep up the motivation, and actually have fun with it.

Hassle Free Goal Setting Tips:

  1. Breakdown your goals. Don’t set a huge goal for a whole year. You need to be able to see progress along the way. What is reasonable for you to complete this week? Then next week?
  2. Write goals that you can control. Don’t write goals that are not COMPLETELY in your control. Saying you want to lose x amount of weight or make x amount of money is setting yourself up for failure. If you want to make more money or lose weight what things can you do to get there? Write goals about how much you will work out, what you will eat, how many projects/clients you will go after, etc.
  3. Jump on your motivation. Take advantage of when you are feeling the momentum of setting a goal. Do more than what you put in your goal so you can feel the success. You are always allowed to do more than you said you would.
  4. Change your goals based on what you did the week before. If your goal was to work out 10 times and you only worked out twice then the next week you should lower your goal to 3 or 4 times and work back up to 10 times. On the other hand if your goal was to workout 3 times and you worked out 10 times, you might want to set next weeks goal for 10 or 11 times. You want to give yourself a little bit of challenge, but not overwhelm yourself.
  5. Get accountable. Tell someone your weekly goals. Find a partner that you can share your weekly goals with and hold each other accountable. This should be someone you trust, who is encouraging and who will hold you accountable.
  6. Celebrate your success. Don’t move on to the next thing without realizing and celebrating the work you put into your goals. You could get yourself a reward like buying something or you can just celebrate by doing a happy dance and telling people about your success.
  7. If you have a plan don’t let other people change it for you. Everyone has their opinions on what works and what doesn’t. When you make a decision to do something, you can’t let other people discourage you or second guess yourself. Stick to your guns and keep going with what works for you.
  8. Recognize when something isn’t working for you. You can change your goals. If you get into something and aren’t seeing any progress, is it because you aren’t doing the work? Maybe you really aren’t motivated to complete that goal. Take some time to figure out what the problem is and change your goal if you need to.
  9. Schedule it in. It is easy to say you want to do something but then you keep putting it off and putting it off because you don’t ever feel like doing it. Let me tell you, love, you won’t always feel like doing what you need to do. That is why you have to schedule it in before hand. You can’t wait until you feel like writing, working out, or calling someone. That would be setting yourself up for failure. Schedule those times in and just do it!
  10. Reflect on your feelings. It is important to recognize when you are just feeling lazy or something really isn’t a good fit for you. If you aren’t enjoying the journey of your goal it will be unlikely you will enjoy the outcome or maintaining your goal. If you aren’t having fun and feeling better about yourself it might be time for a new goal!

There you have it: 10 Tips to get you where you want to go. You can do anything you put your mind to. I believe in you.
