Sleep Like a Baby

You have heard this phrase many times: “sleeping like a baby,” but you actually are sleeping like a baby and it isn’t fun.

If only we could all sleep this easily.

Anyone who has a baby, works with babies, or has ever watched a baby knows they are lucky if the baby only wakes up a few times in the night and it is a miracle if the baby falls asleep easily. The sad news is you probably do sleep like a baby. Pushing the time you will go to bed later and later, having trouble falling asleep, tossing and turning during the night, and dragging yourself out of bed in the morning.

I used to sleep TERRIBLY. I knew that if I wasn’t in bed for at least 8 hours it was going to be a rough day and on the weekends I needed up to 10 hours a night to catch up. It took me at least an hour to fall asleep and I woke up at any little sound.

Now I sleep fantastic. I fall asleep quickly, stay asleep, and wake up feeling rested. It has completely changed my life.

Sleep affects EVERYTHING. Your mood, your health, your relationships, your sex drive, your productivity, your creativity, your memory, and the list goes on. Getting enough healthy sleep is a huge factor in a happy, healthy life.

Here are a few of the tricks and tips that changed my sleep.

  • I used to watch TV; now I read
  • I used to put lotion on; now I use essential oils for sleep (lavender and serenity – buying from this link may earn me income)
  • I used to think about all I did not get done; now I write a list of everything I am grateful for
  • I used to go to bed when I felt like it; now I have a time I try to be in bed by
  • I used to snack in bed; now I drink water
  • I used to check my phone; now I avoid bright lights

Overall, I set up a routine that works for me and I do my best to stick with it. I have tried different things and figured out what works for me. Try one of these tips tonight and tell me how it goes in the comments below.

  1. I absolutely love the grateful list! That sounds so great – I use to think about all the things I didn’t get done and it would freak me out. But life isn’t a race right? 🙂 Great post Danielle!
